INSPIRATION AND VISION

ATLAS

  MARMOR

Atlas is a mythological figure commonly pictured holding the Earth on his shoulders.

Marmor is the Swedish word for marble.

A marble perched at the top edge of a bowl will descend to the bottom of the bowl if an energy source isn’t present to hold the marble to counteract gravity.  And like a marble perched at the top edge of a bowl*, civilization requires energy to keep from descending into disorder.

ATLARMOR’s clients find exciting ways to advance human civilization one idea at a time.  In ways large and small, they have pushed our “earthly marble” a little further towards the bowl’s edge.  These innovators focus on building and scaling core competencies sometimes at the expense of creating resilient, efficient systems to support their weighty, strategic ideas.  Thus, they may not dedicate the systemic energy necessary to install operational infrastructure to prevent their organization from  descending into disorder.

Through broadening our clients' perspectives, ATLARMOR enhances operations by providing consulting services related to supply chain management, procurement, product development, financial modeling, and strategy and strategic implementation.

* This marble/bowl concept is adapted from Thomas Homer-Dixon's The Upside of Down: Catastrophe, Creativity, and the Renewal of Civilization

Civilization’s energy sources derive not only directly from fuel, but also indirectly from social and political organization, productive capacity, and human imagination.  And like a marble pushed to the steepest edge of a bowl and requiring the most energy to remain stable, human advancement has pushed complex civilization to a level requiring more energy than ever to remain stable.
